THE DRIFTLESS TRAIL

Welsh Hills Segment

The Hike

Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 2.0 mile loop

This two-mile loop on the Taliesin property is open for public use. Access the trail from the upper parking lot at the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center. This mostly level trail cuts across the slopes of restored prairie and savanna, offering great views of the Taliesin buildings, agricultural fields, and the Lowery Creek watershed. The trail passes
Unity Chapel connects with a paved state trail next to Highway 23 that loops back
to the Visitor Center. Much of it has no shade, so plan carefully on hot days.
In April of 2026, a new trail on the Welsh Hills ridge will open, offering more loop options
and beautiful vistas in all directions.
