From board retreats and small workshops to weddings and receptions, every gathering directly supports the Driftless Area Land Conservancy’s mission to protect the land we love.

The Lodge at Wintergreen can accommodate gatherings of varying sizes, including larger celebrations of up to 250 guests. All events, regardless of size, must operate within Wintergreen’s conservation-focused event standards.

Gathering at a Conservation Property
What makes hosting an event at Wintergreen different from a traditional event venue?
Our event guidelines are designed around a simple idea: celebrate but tread lightly. Wintergreen is first and foremost a conservation property. The Lodge offers a beautiful place for people to gather, but every event is expected to respect the land, the wildlife, and the public purpose of the preserve. Guests and vendors are expected to stay within designated areas, properly manage waste, and avoid activities that could interfere with our work. A Wintergreen Venue Manager is onsite during the event to oversee use of the property, coordinate with vendors, answer questions, and address issues that may arise. DALC welcomes gatherings that can take place within the conservation-minded standards established for the property.
How does Wintergreen manage event noise and music?
We want celebrations to be joyful without changing the peaceful character of the surrounding rural landscape. Amplified music is to be kept indoors, with the exception of music accompanying an outdoor ceremony. Music must remain at an appropriate volume and end no later than 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Will events continue outdoors late into the evening?
No. Outdoor activity is intentionally limited as the evening approaches. The Aerie terrace closes after sundown to protect wildlife from excessive noise and activity. We want guests to enjoy the remarkable setting while recognizing that they are sharing it with wildlife and our neighbors.
How does Wintergreen approach outdoor lighting?
Wintergreen is committed to preserving the rural night environment. Event lighting is limited to what is necessary for safety with temporary or decorative lighting designed to minimize impacts on wildlife, the surrounding landscape, and neighboring properties. Bright, flashing, sky-directed, or other intrusive outdoor lighting is not permitted.
How many people can attend an event at Wintergreen?
The Lodge can accommodate gatherings of different sizes, including larger celebrations. Whether a gathering includes 25 people or 200, the same expectations for noise, outdoor activity, waste, lighting, and respect for the property and our neighbors apply.
Are fireworks, balloons, confetti or similar celebration items allowed?
No. Because these materials can harm wildlife and the surrounding landscape, Wintergreen does not allow balloons, bird seed, confetti, party string, rice, sky lanterns, sparklers or fireworks. Single-use plastic serviceware, decorations, and party favors are also prohibited.
How are guests and vendors expected to support Wintergreen’s conservation values?
Everyone using Wintergreen shares responsibility for caring for the property. Caterers are required to use reusable or compostable serviceware and appropriately compost food waste, while clients are responsible for ensuring their vendors and guests follow Wintergreen’s guidelines.
