Evenings Afield: Restoring Pine Relicts & Savannas
Explore the height of land between the Lowery Creek and Mill Creek watersheds, home to the two rocky knobs that give Knobs Road its name. These unique areas support northern-like plant communities and are surrounded by fire-dependent oak savanna. Visit the eastern knob, where the landowners are actively restoring the knob, savanna, and prairie, and learn about their restoration process and discoveries. Participants should be prepared for rugged hiking.
The Lowery Creek Watershed Initiative is a community-driven partnership of residents, farmers, conservation organizations, and local partners working together to protect water quality, support resilient agriculture, and steward the natural and cultural landscape of the valley.
